Clara Europe BV
Belgian besloten vennootschap (BV), seated in Puurs-Sint-Amands. Independent of any collective management organisation and any vessel operator: no CMO, operator, or broadcaster holds equity in Clara. The company is funded by service fees from operators. Licence royalties flow from operator to rights holder. Where a rights administrator separately remunerates Clara for administration services, that arrangement is documented and disclosed.
Mandate structure
Clara acts on the operator’s mandate. Each operator grants Clara a written authorisation to engage the relevant rights administrators in the operator’s name. Where a CMO additionally recognises Clara as the operational contact for licence administration, that arrangement is disclosed to the operator. Clara does not act for broadcasters, and no rights holder directs Clara’s advice to operators.
Independence and governance
- No CMO, operator, or broadcaster holds equity in Clara.
- Clara’s remuneration, from operators and, where applicable, from rights administrators, is disclosed; nothing is hidden in the royalty flow.
- Confidentiality of operator information is contractually enforced and is the default operating posture.
Clara’s role is to establish which rights apply, identify the appropriate administrator, avoid duplicate or unnecessary licensing, and ensure that valid obligations are properly cleared and administered. Clara does not assume an additional licence is required simply because a claim exists, and does not dispute valid rights merely to reduce an operator’s cost.
Team
Clara was founded by Michaël De Coninck after two decades of in-field work fitting and operating the onboard broadcast systems this licensing layer sits on top of, aboard European river cruise vessels, ferries, and yachts. Clara Maritime is run as a dedicated licensing-administration business under Clara Europe BV.
